Cattleya Care Guide

Cattleya orchids are very sturdy and can take a lot of abuse from those who tend to forget to water. They are also tolerant of several temperature ranges.

  Light

This plant prefers bright indirect light, but can tolerate medium indirect light. Plants grown under ideal light will have apple green leaves and plants which are not getting enough light will have dark green leaves. Learn more about light here

 Watering

In Coconut Husk medium water retention is more compared to Pine Bark, so plants in Coconut Husk may require once in 2-3 days watering compared to 1-2 days watering in Pine Bark.  Medium may dry faster or slower depending on the weather conditions. So always touch and feel the medium, only when partially dry water the plant.  Learn more about watering here

Fertilizing

Fertilizing your orchid regularly provides it with the nutrients it needs for optimal health, immunity and vigorous blooming. Weekly once with Bio-20 or Basfoliar 19:19:19 for growth and rooting. Once a month with Basfoliar 13-40-13. Learn more about fertilizing here

✨ Flower Specialties

  • Sunset Picotee Palette: The large petals feature a striking, superb blend of golden-yellow and warm orange, beautifully bordered by a distinct pink or red-orange edge.

  • Dramatic Ruffled Lip: It boasts an oversized, heavily ruffled lip in a deep, velvety magenta-red that creates a stark, beautiful contrast.

  • Intense Fragrance: The flowers release a powerful, sweet, and intoxicating perfume that can easily fill a room, peaking in intensity during the mid-morning.

  • Impressive Size: As a true large-flowered Cattleya, individual blooms can reach a breathtaking 4 to 6 inches across.

  • Longevity: With proper care, a single magnificent flush of blooms can last between 3 to 5 weeks on the plant.

🪴Care Guide

  • ☀️ Light & Temperature: Provide bright, indirect light near an east- or west-facing window. Use the leaves as a guide: they should be a healthy light lime-green color (dark green means it needs more light, while yellow/red means too much sun). Thrives in warm daytime temperatures between 24°C and 30°C, with a slight drop at night to stimulate blooming.

  • 💧 Watering & Dry-Out Cycle: Follow a strict dry-out cycle. Water thoroughly, then let the potting medium dry out almost completely before watering again. Never let the roots sit in stagnant water to protect against root rot.

  • 🌡️ Humidity & Microclimate: Aim for a high humidity target between 50% and 70%. In dry rooms, easily increase moisture by placing the pot on a shallow tray filled with pebbles and water, ensuring the bottom of the pot never touches the actual water level.
